Waving Khalistani flags openly on the streets of Canada is highly condemnable.

For a long time now, Khalistanis have been carrying out their activities in Canada, but now they have gone so far as to openly wave Khalistani flags on the streets. Not only that, they also demanded the arrest of India’s popular Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar by portraying them in chains.

In fact, in Newton, Canada, people had gathered on the streets to celebrate the Khalsa Sajna Diwas (Vaisakhi festival). However, during this event, Khalistani supporters suddenly began chanting slogans such as “Long live Khalistan,” slogans supporting the division of India, and demanding the arrest of Indian leaders. Many attendees who had genuinely come to celebrate Vaisakhi felt deeply hurt by all this.

Such open actions by Khalistanis are, in some way, a challenge to the Canadian government and administration. Intellectual members of the Sikh community believe that these individuals could one day become a threat to Canada itself. History shows that any country that has harbored or allowed terrorists to flourish has eventually faced consequences. The Canadian government must realize this and take strict action against the Khalistanis. Likewise, the Indian government should take this matter seriously, speak to the Canadian authorities, and push for stringent action against these elements.

Sikh intellectual Kuldeep Singh Sahni believes that Khalistani supporters can only create a ruckus from foreign lands—they do not have the courage to come to India and voice their opinions here. No Sikh in India has ever supported Khalistan, nor will they ever do so. Indian Sikhs have full loyalty towards their country, and the country, in turn, gives them full respect and representation. Hence, the idea of a separate Sikh nation does not arise at all.

He further stated that when Gurpatwant Singh Pannun and his organization “Sikhs for Justice” offered help to the victims of the Pahalgam terrorist attack, it was nothing but a mockery. On one hand, they blame the Indian government for the attack, and on the other, they offer help—this clearly shows their ulterior motives. They are well aware that no Indian would even think of accepting help from those who harbor hatred towards the nation.
