Marking the first anniversary of the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, US Congressman Brad Sherman has called on Pakistan to take decisive action against terror outfits allegedly operating from its soil, including Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed.

Speaking at a digital exhibition hosted by the Indian Embassy at Capitol Hill, Sherman paid tribute to the victims of the 2025 attack and highlighted the continuing global threat posed by extremist organisations. The exhibition, titled “Human Cost of Terrorism,” brought together lawmakers from both Democratic and Republican parties, underscoring bipartisan concern over international terrorism.

Sherman pointed to the role of The Resistance Front, which was identified as responsible for the Pahalgam attack. According to him, the group has widely acknowledged links to Lashkar-e-Taiba, a Pakistan-based organisation long accused of orchestrating attacks in India. He noted that the attackers reportedly targeted civilians and segregated victims along religious lines, amplifying the brutality of the incident.

“We must use this moment to demand that the Pakistani government clamp down on Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and other terrorist groups,” Sherman said, calling for stronger international pressure to dismantle such networks.

The exhibition featured a timeline of major global terror incidents, including the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts, the 2008 Mumbai attacks, and the Pahalgam tragedy. It also detailed the organisations behind these attacks, many of which have been linked to individuals and groups based in Pakistan.

India’s Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, said the exhibition aimed to reinforce the urgency of collective global action against terrorism. “The scourge of terror continues to threaten societies worldwide. Nations must remain united and resolute in combating this menace,” he told reporters.

Kwatra reiterated that Narendra Modi has consistently emphasised India’s firm stance against terrorism and its commitment to ensuring accountability for those responsible.

The event comes at a time when Pakistan has sought to position itself as a mediator in international conflicts, including recent tensions involving the United States and Iran. However, Sherman’s remarks highlight persistent concerns in Washington over Islamabad’s approach to extremist groups.

As the anniversary of the Pahalgam attack renews calls for justice, the Capitol Hill exhibition served as both a memorial and a reminder of the ongoing global fight against terrorism.
