New Year, New Devotion: Celebrating Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s Birth Anniversary

by Manjari Singh

In a heartwarming fusion of religious devotion and community spirit marking the advent of the new year, Punjab’s Information and Public Relations Department hosted its third religious congregation and langar ceremony in honor of the birth anniversary of the Tenth Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. The event was held at the serene Gurdwara Sahib located at Punjab Civil Secretariat-1, drawing together people from all walks of life.

The congregation was imbued with a palpable sense of reverence. The proceedings began with the soulful recitation of the Sri Sukhmani Sahib by Bhai Kashmir Singh, the Granthi from Gurdwara Sahib Sector-11. His melodious voice set a tone of spiritual reflection, inviting the gathering to embrace the devotional atmosphere. Soon after, renowned preacher Bhai Gurmeet Singh Shant captivated the audience with his stirring rendition of Gurbani Kirtan in the Basant ragas, infusing the celebration with vibrant musical energy and deep cultural resonance.

The event was graced by the presence of several dignitaries, including Cabinet Minister and AAP State President Mr. Aman Arora and Lok Sabha Member Mr. Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer. Key administrators from the state’s leadership, such as the Chief Minister’s OSD (Media) Mr. Adil Azmi, Financial Commissioner (Revenue) Mr. Anurag Verma, and Secretary General Administration Mrs. Gurpreet Kaur Sapra, were also in attendance. Their participation underscored the government’s commitment to promoting both cultural heritage and communal harmony. Additionally, high-ranking officials from the Information and Public Relations Department, Punjab Civil Secretariat, and other local institutions lent their support to the successful organization of the event.

Following the spiritual discourses and music, attendees shared in a community langar—a traditional offering of food symbolizing equality and togetherness. The langar not only nourished the body but also reinforced the communal message of unity and collective welfare promoted by the teachings of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

Journalists and representatives from various state departments, including personnel from the Punjab Civil Secretariat-1, Civil Secretariat-2, and the Punjab Legislative Assembly, were seen actively participating in the day’s events. Retired DIPR officers and local law enforcement agencies, including Gurdwara Sahib Shahpur Sector-38, Kamal Sound Dhuri, and CISF, were also acknowledged for their contributions to ensuring that the gathering ran smoothly.

This year’s congregation and langar are notable not only as a celebration of a significant Sikh religious event but also as a testament to Punjab’s enduring commitment to its cultural traditions and community welfare. Amidst the celebrations and spiritual reflections, the event served as a reminder of the unifying power of faith, music, and shared meals—a power that continues to inspire and connect diverse communities across the region.
