In a coordinated crackdown on drug trafficking along the Punjab border, the Border Security Force (BSF), working closely with the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), arrested two individuals and confiscated significant quantities of heroin on Saturday evening. Operations were carried out simultaneously in the Amritsar and Tarn Taran areas, yielding a total of approximately 2.5 kg of narcotics, along with a mobile phone.
The first operation unfolded near Chak Bal village in Ajnala, Amritsar. Acting on a timely intelligence tip, BSF personnel raided the residence of a suspected drug peddler at around 7:15 p.m. During the search, officials recovered two packets of heroin weighing a gross total of 1.56 kg. The narcotics were meticulously wrapped in white polythene and further concealed in white cloth. The apprehended suspect was subsequently transferred to local police authorities for further investigation and formal registration of an FIR.
Meanwhile, in Tarn Taran, BSF troops executed a meticulously planned ambush in a suspected drug trafficking zone. The operation took an unexpected turn when security forces intercepted a drone flight and observed an individual in the drone’s designated drop zone, apparently attempting to retrieve a consignment. The suspect, a resident of Dal village, was promptly detained along with two packets of what is believed to be heroin, weighing approximately 1.095 kg. In addition, a mobile phone was recovered from the scene. The narcotics, secured with yellow adhesive tape and encircled by a copper wire loop, were carefully documented as evidence. The detained individual was handed over to the Khalra police station for further interrogation and case proceedings.
These operations underscore the persistent efforts by border security and anti-narcotics authorities to disrupt drug trafficking networks along the state’s borders. With increased intelligence sharing and coordinated actions, officials remain committed to tackling the menace of drug smuggling and ensuring the safety of local communities.
