Empowering Youth Through Adventure and Trekking: Step Towards Leadership Development

by Manjari Singh

In a bid to cultivate leadership qualities among the young population of the state and promote healthy sports activities, the Youth Services Department has selected 230 enthusiastic youth to participate in an Adventure and Trekking camp in the picturesque town of Manali. This initiative aims to not only provide an opportunity for adventure and physical activity but also to instill valuable leadership skills in the participants.

The Adventure and Trekking camp, organized in two phases, demonstrates the government’s commitment to nurturing the potential of Punjab’s youth. In the second phase of the camp, two buses, each carrying 115 young participants, were flagged off by Chairman of the Punjab Youth Development Board, Parminder Singh Goldy. Earlier, in the first phase, another 115 young individuals embarked on a 10-day camp, kick-starting this inspiring journey under the guidance of Youth Services Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer.

Chairman Parminder Singh Goldy emphasized that the empowerment of youth is a top priority for the State Government. To achieve this goal, a comprehensive new youth policy is currently in the works. This policy aims to empower the youth of the state and increase their participation in various activities that contribute to their personal and professional growth.

Goldy acknowledged the fact that Punjab has a substantial youth population and, as such, the government has developed extensive plans tailored to their needs and aspirations. He urged the youth to take an active role in educating their peers about social issues, particularly the detrimental effects of drug abuse, and to contribute to environmental conservation by combatting the problem of stubble burning.

One notable aspect of the Adventure and Trekking camp is the selection process. The Punjab Government has carefully chosen 10 youth from each district, totaling 230 participants who will be divided into two groups. These two groups will embark on an enriching adventure to the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports in Manali.

The Adventure and Trekking camp is more than just a thrilling outdoor experience. It is a platform for the youth to develop essential leadership skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and decision-making while embracing the beauty of nature in the serene Himalayan region of Manali. The program encourages personal growth and self-discovery, fostering a sense of responsibility and a desire to contribute positively to society.
