SGPC Launches Mission to Protect Sacred ‘Saroops’ Amid Border Tensions

In a significant move to safeguard religious sanctity amid rising tensions along the Indo-Pak border, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has begun relocating the revered “saroops” of Guru Granth Sahib from gurdwaras situated close to the frontier.

Special teams have been deployed to oversee the careful transfer of the holy scriptures from vulnerable gurdwaras in the districts of Gurdaspur, Amritsar, and Taran Taran. The decision follows a recent incident where the Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, sustained damage during cross-border shelling. In that instance, the “saroop” was safely moved to Gurdwara Baath Sahib in Pathankot, underlining the urgency of the broader initiative.

An SGPC team is also active in the Jammu region, working to ensure that “saroops” from gurdwaras there are relocated to safer premises.

Rajinder Singh Ruby, manager of the Golden Temple, confirmed that over 100 “saroops” have already been securely transported to Gurdwara Satlani Sahib near Attari. “These will soon be moved to the SGPC headquarters before being respectfully distributed among other gurdwaras,” Ruby said.

In Gurdaspur, the sacred texts from gurdwaras near Dera Baba Nanak and Galarhi have been shifted to Gurdwara Tahli Sahib, ensuring their protection from any potential threat.

The SGPC’s proactive steps underscore the deep reverence for the Guru Granth Sahib and the community’s commitment to preserving our spiritual heritage even in challenging times.
