The Ministry of Education today unveiled the 2025 edition of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), with several universities and colleges from Punjab and Chandigarh making significant strides across multiple categories. The rankings, now in their 10th year, showcase the region’s growing academic excellence and research capabilities.
Agricultural Excellence
Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, has maintained its position as the country’s top state agricultural university, securing the third rank nationally in the Agriculture and Allied Sectors category for the third year in a row. The only institutions ahead of PAU—the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, and the National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal—are centrally funded. Other strong performers in the overall category included Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET), Patiala (44th), LPU (49th), IIT Ropar (56th), Panjab University (57th), IISER Mohali (70th), and PAU (81st).
