In a remarkable display of scientific prowess, Ms. Charanjeet Kaur, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Biochemistry at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has once again proven the university’s commitment to cutting-edge research. Ms. Kaur recently clinched the second position in the poster presentation category at the VIIth International Conference on “Global Research Initiatives for Sustainable Agriculture and Allied Sciences (GRISAAS-2023).” The conference, a gathering of the brightest minds in agricultural science, was held from December 18 to 20, 2023.
Ms. Charanjeet Kaur’s outstanding achievement was attributed to her exceptional poster presentation on the topic “Valorization of agricultural by-product to bio-product: A comparative methodology for Leaf Protein Concentrate production.” The research, jointly authored by Ms. Kaur and her mentor, Dr. Surekha Bhatia, explores innovative methods for producing Leaf Protein Concentrate from agricultural by-products.
Currently engaged in her Ph.D. research, Ms. Kaur’s work focuses on the isolation and characterization of leaf protein concentrates from carrot (Daucus carota L.) and potato (Solanum tuberosum L.). The aim is to explore the potential applications of these concentrates in various food products. Working under the guidance of Dr. Surekha Bhatia, Principal Biochemist in the Department of Processing and Food Engineering at PAU, Ms. Kaur is at the forefront of groundbreaking research in the field.
The significance of Ms. Kaur’s work was underscored by the recognition and congratulations she received from the university’s top leadership. Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor of PAU, expressed his pride in Ms. Kaur’s accomplishment. Dr. Shammi Kapoor, Dean of the College of Basic Sciences and Humanities, and Dr. (Mrs.) Manjeet Kaur Sangha, Head of the Department of Biochemistry, joined in congratulating the young researcher.
Ms. Charanjeet Kaur’s success not only highlights her dedication and expertise but also brings recognition to Punjab Agricultural University as a hub for pioneering research in sustainable agriculture. As the world grapples with the challenges of feeding a growing population sustainably, the work of researchers like Ms. Kaur is essential in shaping the future of agriculture and food production.
The accolades garnered by Ms. Kaur at GRISAAS-2023 underscore the importance of fostering an environment that encourages innovation and exploration in the field of agricultural sciences. Her success serves as an inspiration to aspiring researchers and reinforces PAU’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of knowledge and contributing to global sustainability efforts.
