Union Minister Raksha Nikhil Khadse on Tuesday assured flood-hit communities in Punjab that the Centre is working to ensure the “maximum possible” compensation reaches farmers and families who have suffered devastating losses.

During a visit to several inundated villages in Patiala district’s Ghanaur Assembly segment, Khadse said the Union government was compiling detailed data on the scale of damage to expedite financial assistance. “We want to make sure that every affected household is accounted for, and that help reaches them without delay,” she said.

The minister emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had directed his cabinet colleagues to personally visit disaster-stricken areas. “The Prime Minister has made it clear: we must meet the families, see their hardships firsthand, and respond accordingly,” Khadse added.

Accompanied by former Patiala MP and BJP leader Preneet Kaur, Khadse interacted with residents in Jand Mangoli, Untsar, Kami Khurd, and Chamaru villages. Many families shared accounts of crop losses and damaged homes after the Ghaggar river overflowed, leaving fields submerged and livelihoods imperiled.

Taking note of the widespread destruction in Ghanaur, the minister instructed the Sub-Divisional Magistrate to carry out a comprehensive survey. “Compensation should not stop at statistics — it must reach every victim directly,” she said, stressing the importance of transparency in the relief process.

Khadse is among several Union ministers dispatched to Punjab following the Prime Minister’s recent state visit, reflecting New Delhi’s push to provide both immediate and long-term support to the flood-ravaged region.
