In a determined effort to stamp out the drug menace, the Punjab government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has taken bold steps with its “Yudh Nashiyan Virudh” campaign, reporting significant progress in its drive against drug smuggling. The state’s latest operations have already instilled a sense of relief among local residents who have long suffered from the scourge of illegal drug activities.
Crackdown in Nawanshahr
In a meticulously coordinated operation in Nawanshahr’s Kalaran Mohalla, officials from the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar Police, working closely with the local civil administration, demolished several illegal constructions linked to drug-trafficking networks. The operation targeted structures owned by three families, headed by individuals identified as Biro, Shindo, and Santosh. According to SSP Dr. Mehtab Singh, one of the families had a staggering 14 cases registered against them, highlighting the extensive involvement in drug-related offenses.
The demolition, conducted at the behest of the Municipal Council, was a decisive move to rid the community of persistent disturbances. Residents, who had long been troubled by the activities of local drug peddlers, have welcomed the government’s strong action, affirming their support for the ongoing initiatives aimed at creating a drug-free Punjab.
Operation in Sunam Udham Singh Wala
Simultaneously, another critical operation unfolded in Sunam Udham Singh Wala. Under the supervision of SSP Sartaj Singh Chahal, a joint team of district administration and police authorities dismantled an illegal structure near the main gate of Anaj Mandi. This building, reportedly used as both a residence and a shop, was linked to drug peddler Budh Singh, also known as Budhu. Notably, the property had been unlawfully occupied from the Market Committee Sunam, and Budh Singh faces numerous cases under the NDPS Act and the Excise Act.
A Message to the Drug Traffickers
Both SSPs involved in the operations have issued stern warnings to drug smugglers across the state. Authorities have made it clear that individuals involved in illegal drug activities must either abandon their pursuits voluntarily or brace for severe legal repercussions. They also encouraged the public to report any suspicious drug-related activities, emphasizing a commitment to swift and uncompromising action.
Community Response and Future Prospects
The local communities in both Nawanshahr and Sunam Udham Singh Wala have expressed strong support for the government’s decisive measures. Many residents have lauded Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann for his proactive approach, voicing optimism that these efforts will eventually lead to a complete eradication of drug trafficking in Punjab.
Officials assured that similar operations against drug networks and unauthorized constructions will continue, reinforcing the state’s pledge to create a safer and healthier environment for all its citizens. With the “Yudh Nashiyan Virudh” campaign gaining momentum, Punjab’s fight against drugs appears more robust than ever, marking a pivotal chapter in the state’s journey toward a drug-free future.
