In a dramatic dawn raid, law enforcement agencies in Kaushambi arrested a key operative linked to international terrorism on Thursday morning. The suspect, identified as Lazar Masih—a native of Amritsar—was detained at approximately 3:20 a.m. in a coordinated effort by the Punjab Police and the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF).
Authorities revealed that Masih, an active member of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), has been allegedly operating under the guidance of Pakistan-based ISI operatives. His arrest marks a significant breakthrough, as he is reportedly connected with Swarn Singh, known by his alias Jeevan Fauji, who heads the Germany module of the terror outfit.
During the meticulous search following Masih’s apprehension, law enforcement officers discovered a cache of illegal arms and explosives. Recovered items included three hand grenades, two detonators, a 7.62 mm Russian pistol, and 13 live cartridges. Additionally, the operation uncovered various explosive materials—namely, a quantity of white-coloured explosive powder—as well as an Aadhaar card bearing a Ghaziabad address and a mobile phone devoid of an active SIM card.
“This terrorist had escaped from judicial custody in Punjab on September 24, 2024,” Additional Director General of Police (UP Special Task Force, Law and Order) Amitabh Yash disclosed. “As per available information, the arrested terrorist works for Swarn Singh alias Jeevan Fauji, the head of the Germany-based module of Babbar Khalsa International and is in direct touch with Pakistan-based ISI operatives.”
Officials believe that Masih’s arrest disrupts a critical link within the network, potentially hampering further planned operations. The recovery of significant quantities of arms and explosive materials has raised alarms among security agencies, who are now intensifying their investigations into the broader network of BKI operatives.
The swift and collaborative action between state forces underscores the determination of law enforcement agencies in India to combat terrorism and curb the influence of cross-border extremist networks. As investigations continue, authorities remain vigilant, promising to unearth more details on the operational reach and international affiliations of the terror group.
This latest development is being closely monitored by national security experts and serves as a stern reminder of the persistent challenges in countering terrorism on both domestic and international fronts.
