Pakistan Drone Drops Heroin: BSF Nabs Smugglers in Punjab Border Bust

by Parminder Singh Sodhi

Two local residents suspected of being involved in narcotics smuggling were arrested Sunday after authorities intercepted a significant heroin consignment near the border area of Gurdaspur district. The incident unfolded in Chanduwadala village, where law enforcement officials discovered evidence pointing to a sophisticated cross-border operation.

According to a Border Security Force (BSF) official, the duo was detained after retrieving a heroin packet weighing approximately 550 grams. The illicit substance was allegedly dropped from a Pakistani drone late Saturday night, an assertion that was further substantiated by the discovery of a metal hook attached to the packet—a clear indicator of its aerial delivery.

The BSF was conducting an intensive search operation in the region after receiving intelligence reports about unusual drone activity along the border. “Our troops were on high alert and managed to intercept the smugglers as they were attempting to retrieve the dropped packet,” the official explained, emphasizing the importance of maintaining vigilance along the sensitive border areas.

The apprehended suspects, who are residents of Chanduwadala village, are now facing questioning as authorities piece together the details of what appears to be a well-orchestrated narcotics trafficking attempt. This incident adds to growing concerns regarding the security challenges posed by cross-border smuggling activities, especially those involving unmanned aerial vehicles.

Local residents expressed mixed feelings, with some voicing concerns about the implications of drone-enabled smuggling, while others commended the swift action taken by security forces to secure the border and curb illegal activities.

As investigations continue, the BSF has vowed to strengthen surveillance and operational readiness along the border, ensuring that any similar attempts to smuggle contraband are promptly detected and thwarted. The case highlights the evolving methods of narcotics trafficking and the ongoing efforts by Indian security agencies to counter such threats.
