The ambassador pointed out that the resurgence of ISIS in South Asia, particularly in Afghanistan and Pakistan, remains a pressing concern for US security officials. The US has been closely monitoring extremist movements in these regions as part of its broader counterterrorism strategy.
Beyond South Asia, Shea also emphasized the severity of the ISIS threat in Africa, particularly in the volatile Sahel region, where extremist factions have gained traction in recent years. She noted that the US is working with international partners to curb ISIS’s expansion and prevent further destabilization.
Shea further addressed the situation in Syria, reinforcing the US stance on fostering stability and security in the war-torn nation. The US, she stated, envisions a peaceful Syria that coexists with its neighbors, upholds human rights, and does not serve as a sanctuary for terrorist organizations. Washington remains committed to ensuring that Syria does not become a base for ISIS, Iranian-backed terrorism, or other extremist elements that could threaten regional stability.
As the US continues its global counterterrorism efforts, Ambassador Shea reaffirmed Washington’s resolve to dismantle ISIS networks and prevent the group from regaining strength in key regions. The US government remains steadfast in its mission to combat terrorism and safeguard global security.
