In a heart-wrenching plea to the government, Mithu Singh, a farmer from Barah village, has appealed for assistance to bring back the body of his daughter, Beant Kaur, who tragically passed away in Canada due to a sudden heart attack.
Beant Kaur, aged 25, had recently moved to Canada just two months ago, after her father sold a portion of their land to fund her journey in pursuit of a better future. The news of her untimely demise has left the family devastated, compounded by the financial strain they now face in arranging for her final journey home.
Speaking with profound grief, Mithu Singh recounted how he had sold one of his two acres of land and spent approximately Rs 26 lakh to ensure his daughter’s dreams could take flight. His hopes of seeing Beant prosper in Canada were shattered when he received the tragic news of her passing. “Bringing her body back will cost a huge sum,” he lamented, highlighting the family’s desperate situation.
Jaswinder Kaur, Beant’s mother, expressed her shattered dreams of seeing her daughter adorned in bridal attire. “All our dreams are now shattered,” she mourned. The family, now facing immense financial hardship, has turned to political leaders, including Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Member of Parliament Harsimrat Kaur Badal, for assistance in repatriating Beant’s body.
“We have appealed to CM Mann and MP Harsimrat for help,” Mithu Singh stated, reflecting the family’s hope that their elected representatives will extend a compassionate hand during this dire time.
The entire community of Barah village stands in solidarity with the grieving family, echoing their plea for support from authorities. The plight of the Singh family underscores the challenges faced by many who sacrifice deeply to support their loved ones’ aspirations abroad, only to be confronted with unforeseen tragedies.
As the family awaits a response to their plea, their sorrow resonates through the fields of Mansa district, a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by countless families striving for a better future for their children.
