Punjab’s Educational Triumph: Central University Convocation Celebrates Growth and Excellence

Punjab’s educational landscape witnessed a momentous occasion as the Central University of Punjab hosted its ninth convocation, graced by the esteemed presence of former President Ram Nath Kovind. The ceremony, held under the stewardship of Prof Jagbir Singh, Chancellor of the university, marked a significant milestone in the region’s educational journey.

Amidst an aura of academic fervor, a total of 864 PG/PhD degrees were conferred upon deserving Indian and international students. The event not only celebrated the culmination of academic pursuits but also served as a platform to recognize outstanding contributions across diverse domains.

Highlighting the spirit of excellence, Prof Raghavendra P Tiwari, Vice-Chancellor of the university, bestowed honorary degrees upon four illustrious personalities. Ajit Doval, the National Security Adviser, Harjit Singh Sabharwal, a distinguished social worker, and Jaspinder Narula, a renowned singer, were honored with DLitt (honoris causa), underscoring their remarkable achievements and service to society. Additionally, Dr. Vijay Bhatkar, the visionary behind India’s pioneering supercomputer, was awarded the DSc (honoris causa), acknowledging his groundbreaking contributions to technology and innovation.

In a gesture of recognition and encouragement, Kovind adorned 45 meritorious students with gold medals for securing the first position in their respective disciplines, symbolizing their academic prowess and dedication to excellence.

Addressing the distinguished gathering, Kovind expressed profound admiration for the state of Punjab and its rich cultural heritage. He commended the university for its strategic location near the revered Takht Damdama Sahib, emphasizing the profound significance of studying amidst such historical and spiritual surroundings. Furthermore, he praised the institution’s unwavering commitment to providing holistic education, aligned with the principles outlined in the National Education Policy 2020. Kovind applauded the university’s efforts in fostering Indian diversity on its campus, offering quality education to students hailing from 27 states, seven union territories, and representing 22 countries globally.

The convocation ceremony not only celebrated academic achievements but also served as a testament to Punjab’s educational growth and progress. It underscored the region’s dedication to nurturing talent, fostering innovation, and contributing meaningfully to the nation’s intellectual capital. As Punjab continues to carve its niche in the educational landscape, events like these serve as beacons of inspiration, guiding the way towards a brighter, more inclusive future for generations to come.
