by Parminder Singh Sodhi

In a significant move to bolster employment opportunities for the state’s youth, the Punjab government announced on Friday the establishment of a new Centre for Training and Employment of Punjab Youth (C-PYTE) in the strategically located border district of Pathankot.

The decision was formalized during an Executive Board meeting led by Aman Arora, Minister of the Department of Employment Generation, Skill Development, and Training. The new C-PYTE camp is slated to be set up in Tango Shah village, with a dedicated 5.5-acre plot earmarked for the project.

Currently, Punjab hosts 14 C-PYTE centers that have successfully trained over 257,595 young individuals at no cost, leading to the employment of 114,861 graduates in various police, armed, and paramilitary forces. The expansion to Pathankot aims to extend these benefits to more youth, particularly in border regions where employment opportunities are crucial.

In addition to the establishment of the new camp, the Executive Board has sanctioned the integration of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) certified security guard training into the C-PYTE curriculum. This enhancement will be delivered through a dedicated training partner, with future collaborations planned with PESCO to facilitate placements for graduates.

Aman Arora emphasized the importance of holistic development in the training programs, announcing the introduction of formal coaching sessions focused on personality development and soft skills. “This initiative is designed to cultivate integrity, confidence, discipline, and focus among our youth. It not only prepares them for meaningful employment but also encourages them to become responsible citizens committed to combating societal issues like drug abuse,” Arora stated.

Jaspreet Talwar, Principal Secretary of Employment Generation, Skill Development, and Training, highlighted the broader objectives of C-PYTE camps. “Our centers are not just about job training; they are instrumental in instilling values such as discipline, social responsibility, and a sense of nation-building among the youth,” Talwar explained.

Major General (Retd) Rambir Singh Mann, Director General of C-PYTE, expressed optimism about the new developments. “The introduction of advanced training modules and personality development programs will significantly enhance the employability of our youth, ensuring they are well-prepared to serve in various security forces,” Mann added.

The Punjab government’s initiative to expand and enhance the C-PYTE program underscores its commitment to empowering young people with the skills and opportunities necessary for their personal and professional growth. By targeting key sectors like security and defense, the program not only addresses employment challenges but also contributes to the state’s overall security infrastructure.

As the new C-PYTE camp in Pathankot takes shape, it is expected to become a beacon of hope and progress for countless young individuals seeking to build a stable and impactful career in Punjab’s esteemed security forces.
