Police Capture Poppy Cultivator, Seize 7 Kilos

Police arrested a person who was cultivating poppy along with garlic in the village of Jaipura in Khanna district. Acting on a tip-off, the police raided and apprehended the accused. Meanwhile, 7 kilograms of poppy plants were seized from the scene.

The accused has been identified as Balwinder Singh, a resident of Jaipura. A case has been registered against him under the NDPS Act at Doraha police station. DSP Payal Nikhil Garg informed that the police party was present at the Kadon Chowk when the informant tipped them off that Balwinder Singh had planted poppy plants along with garlic crops in the fields.

Poppy straw and opium are prepared from these plants. When the police team raided, they found the plants planted there. While recovering 40 to 45 plants, the accused was arrested from the spot. DSP mentioned that under the leadership of ASI Sikander Raj, the accused was arrested. He was presented in court on Saturday and remanded.

The accused is being interrogated about what he used to do after cultivating poppy. Whether he consumed it himself or sold it along with it. This is being investigated.
