The Central Communication Bureau of Communication, under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, organized an insightful district-level seminar on the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita at Dev Samaj College for Women. The event, held on Friday, was honored by the presence of District & Sessions Judge Virinder Agarwal as the chief guest.

Judge Agarwal highlighted the significance of the newly implemented criminal laws, which have been under discussion since the formation of the Dr. Ranbir Singh Committee in 2020. He elaborated on the transformative impact these laws are expected to have on the judicial system and everyday lives, emphasizing their role in enhancing transparency within police investigations and introducing special measures to tackle terrorism effectively.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhupinder Singh also addressed the gathering, pointing out the positive changes brought about by the new laws. He specifically praised the E-Sakshya App, which has revolutionized police procedures by mandating the upload of videography related to arrests, seizures, and crime scenes.

Gurmeet Singh (IIS), FPO of the Central Communications Bureau, elaborated on the legislative overhaul, explaining that as of July 1, three new criminal laws have replaced the outdated IPC 1860, CRPC 1973, and Indian Evidence Act 1872. The integration of modern technology and electronic evidence into the legal framework aims to expedite case processing and enhance judicial efficiency.

In addition to these enlightening discussions, the event featured speeches from Deputy District Education Officer Pargat Singh Brar, and Principals Jagdeep Pal Singh and Sangeeta Sharma. The program was further enlivened by a vibrant Nukkad Natak performed by the Punjabi Sabhyacharak Kala Manch, alongside engaging performances by students, which captivated the audience.

The seminar marked a significant step in updating legal procedures and incorporating modern technology into India’s criminal justice system, reflecting the government’s commitment to improving judicial transparency and efficiency.
