In a significant crackdown on the district’s narcotics network, Jalandhar Rural Police successfully intercepted a substantial drug shipment and detained a well-known drug trafficker who had recently resumed illicit activities after being granted bail in a prior NDPS case. The operation led to the seizure of 50 grams of premium-grade heroin, marking a crucial victory in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in the region.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh briefed the media on the operation, highlighting the role of precise intelligence in its execution. “This operation was meticulously planned based on actionable intelligence provided by our CIA Staff,” SSP Khakh explained.
The breakthrough came from specific information relayed by Inspector Pushap Bali, which enabled a specialized team, under the leadership of SP Investigation Jasroop Kaur Bath and DSP Investigation Sarvanjit Singh, to strategically position themselves near Cinema Mor in Kartarpur. “Our officers were strategically placed to monitor and intercept any suspicious activities in the area,” SSP Khakh detailed.
The suspect, Ranjit Singh alias Neetu from Alampur Bakka village, was apprehended in a coordinated move by the police force. “Upon detecting the police presence, Mr. Ranjit Singh attempted to dispose of the heroin. However, our team’s prompt and effective response ensured both the recovery of the contraband and his arrest,” SSP Khakh added.
Further investigation revealed that the accused had previously been booked under the NDPS Act in March 2022 (FIR No. 48) at Police Station Kartarpur. A new case has been filed under sections 21B, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act (FIR No. 01 dated January 2, 2025), signaling the authorities’ determination to clamp down on repeat offenders.
The police department is now seeking extended custody of the arrested individual to delve deeper into the operation’s broader ramifications, including tracing the origins of the seized drugs and mapping out the distribution network involved. “We are launching a comprehensive financial investigation to track assets acquired through drug-related activities. Any property found to be linked to the narcotics trade will be seized in accordance with the law,” stated SSP Khakh.
