Five Hoshiarpur cricketers picked for Punjab U-23 women’s camp

Five young women cricketers from Hoshiarpur have been selected for the Punjab Under-23 women’s cricket camp, marking a notable achievement for the district’s growing pool of female players.

The five players — Pooja, Niranka, Shivani, Manreet Aulakh and Suhana — will attend the week-long camp being organised by the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) in Patiala. The camp will serve as the selection platform for the Punjab squad that will compete in the national Under-23 women’s cricket tournament.

Shivani and Manreet Aulakh already have experience representing Punjab, while Pooja, Niranka and Suhana will be looking to make their way into the state team through strong performances during the camp.

As part of the selection process, the players will also feature in practice matches against Mumbai and UT Chandigarh. Their performances in these games are expected to play an important role in determining the final Punjab squad.

Hoshiarpur District Cricket Association (HDCA) secretary Dr Raman Ghai said having five players from the district selected for the camp was an encouraging sign for women’s cricket in Hoshiarpur. He attributed the achievement to the sustained efforts of the players as well as the district’s coaching team.

HDCA president Dr Daljit Khela congratulated the five cricketers and encouraged them to make the most of the opportunity by maintaining their focus and putting in consistent effort at the camp.

District women’s coach Davinder Kaur Kalyan, assistant coach Nikita Kumari, former national player and district trainer Kuldeep Dhami, coach Daljit Singh and other members of the association and coaching staff also congratulated the players and wished them success in their bid to earn places in the Punjab squad.
