In a significant international engagement, Dr. Prabjeet Singh, Deputy Director (Training) at Krishi Vigyan Kendra Booh, delivered a pivotal keynote address at the 2nd Aquatic Science Conference held at Prince of Songkla University in Hat Yai, Thailand. The conference, hosted by the Aquatic Science and Innovative Management Division of the Faculty of Natural Resources, drew a distinguished audience of global experts in aquatic science.
Dr. Singh, known for his innovative work in shrimp aquaculture, presented a lead paper titled “Securing Sustainable Aqua-Food Systems & Resources.” His address, “Best Management Practices in Shrimp Farming: A Way Forward towards Sustainability,” highlighted the urgent need for adherence to Best Management Practices (BMPs) to address the pressing issue of disease in global shrimp farming.
Sharing the stage with eminent scientists such as Prof. Dr. Toshiaki Itami of Miyazaki University, Japan, and Dr. Puthh Songsangjinda from Thailand’s Department of Fisheries, Dr. Singh emphasized collaborative efforts between Thai and Indian researchers to combat diseases that have previously impacted Thailand’s shrimp industry.
Dr. Singh’s expertise extends beyond theoretical knowledge; his practical application of shrimp farming technologies has transformed salt-affected, waterlogged lands in South-western Punjab into thriving shrimp farms. This work has not only enhanced agricultural productivity but also improved the socio-economic conditions of local farmers, who had previously faced financial difficulties.
His groundbreaking contributions to shrimp aquaculture have earned him recognition on the global stage, leading to frequent invitations to present at various international forums. Dr. Singh’s efforts were recently acknowledged by Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Director of Extension Education, who praised his achievement as a catalyst for future research collaborations between academic institutions.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Inderjeet Singh also lauded Dr. Singh’s accomplishments, stating, “Dr. Prabjeet Singh’s international representation underscores his critical role in leveraging previously barren lands for productive use and uplifting the economic status of our region’s farmers.”
Dr. Singh’s impactful work not only reflects his personal dedication but also positions Krishi Vigyan Kendra Booh and its affiliated institutions as leaders in advancing sustainable aquaculture practices globally.
