Brutal Assault on Indian-Origin Woman in Canada

by Antariksh Singh

A shocking incident at a busy railway station in Calgary has left the community reeling after a video showing the brutal assault of an Indian-origin woman went viral online. The disturbing footage, captured at the Third Street S.E. CTrain station on Seventh Avenue S.E., shows a man violently attacking the woman in broad daylight.

According to the Calgary Police, the incident unfolded on the station’s south side when the suspect, later identified as Braydon Joseph James French, aggressively grabbed the victim’s jacket and forcefully shook her. The video reveals further moments of the attack, as the man seized her water bottle, splashed her face with water, and slammed her against the transit shelter walls. In a final act of coercion, he demanded that she hand over her mobile phone.

Despite the severity of the assault, the victim managed to call the police after the attacker fled the scene, leaving behind his stolen phone. “Thanks to the support of witnesses in the area and to the swift actions of our members, we were able to make an arrest within 25 minutes of this incident,” stated Inspector Jason Bobrowich of the Calgary Police Service District 1.

The video has quickly spread across social media, igniting public outrage and prompting widespread allegations of racism. However, police have clarified that at this time there is no evidence to suggest that the attack was racially motivated. “At this time the incident is not believed to be racially motivated,” a spokesperson for the Calgary Police added. The department’s Diversity Resource Team is actively engaging with community members affected by the incident.

Community leaders have called for increased vigilance and support for victims of violence, urging local authorities to ensure that public spaces remain safe for all residents. The incident has not only underscored ongoing concerns about personal safety in public transit areas but also raised broader questions about community relations in a multicultural city.

The investigation is ongoing as police continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses. Calgary Police have assured the public that they are committed to transparency and will provide further updates as more information becomes available.

As this story continues to develop, community members remain united in their demand for justice and the reassurance of a safe, welcoming environment for everyone.
