Khalistan Extremist Caught by NIA

Amidst the ongoing tensions with Pakistan, reports are also emerging that Khalistani terrorists are once again attempting to become active in India. In this context, Indian intelligence agencies have achieved a major success by arresting a Khalistani terrorist, Kashmir Singh alias Balbir Singh, from the Motihari region of Bihar. He is currently being interrogated by a team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Following surveillance by the NIA, several agencies coordinated efforts to arrest him. Kashmir Singh was presented in court and subsequently sent to Delhi on a four-day transit remand for further interrogation. Reports suggest that Kashmir Singh alias Balbir Singh had previously escaped from Punjab’s Nabha Jail and is known for his close ties with Khalistani extremist groups, including Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and a Nepal-based network led by Harvinder Singh Sandhu alias Rinda.

According to NIA sources, Singh played a significant role in organizing and funding several terrorist operations, including the infamous Nabha jailbreak. After escaping prison, he fled to Nepal, where he lived under the guise of a common man. During interrogation, it was revealed that he started selling clothes in Nepal to avoid suspicion while simultaneously strengthening the terrorist network by recruiting new members. His activities in Nepal were funded through more than six bank accounts, which received crores of rupees for operational use.

Singh was captured by the Motihari police while he was attempting to re-enter Nepal via the Raxaul border, dressed in plain clothes and carrying no belongings to avoid suspicion. The NIA had already received intelligence on his movements, leading to his immediate arrest in Motihari. Balbir Singh, who had a bounty of ₹10 lakh on his head, has been a key part of the Khalistani movement. His arrest marks a significant achievement in the Indian authorities’ ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and prevent the spread of extremism in the region.

Although Kashmir Singh alias Balbir Singh has been taken into custody thanks to the efforts of the NIA team, it remains unclear how many other such terrorists are still operating while living among ordinary citizens. This underscores the need for Indian intelligence agencies to further strengthen their operations to apprehend such individuals before they can execute any major plans.
