Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh has added another milestone to his career with a prestigious International Emmy Awards 2025 nomination. The actor-singer has been shortlisted in the Best Performance by an Actor category for his role in filmmaker Imtiaz Ali’s acclaimed biopic Amar Singh Chamkila.
The film, which traces the life of Punjab’s legendary folk singer Amar Singh Chamkila, has also secured a nomination in the TV Movie/Mini-Series category. This makes it the sole Indian entry in this year’s lineup, as announced by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in New York on Thursday.
Produced by Window Seat Films and released on Netflix, the film stars Dosanjh in the titular role and Parineeti Chopra as Chamkila’s wife Amarjot. Both were tragically gunned down in 1988, a chapter that remains etched in Punjab’s cultural memory.
Global Competition
Dosanjh faces stiff competition in the Best Actor category, where he is nominated alongside David Mitchell for Ludwig (United Kingdom), Oriol Pla for Yo, adicto (Spain), and Diego Vasquez for One Hundred Years of Solitude (Colombia).
Meanwhile, Amar Singh Chamkila will compete against Germany’s Herrhausen: The Banker and the Bomb, the UK’s Lost Boys & Fairies, and Chile’s Vencer o Morir in the TV Movie/Mini-Series segment.
Awards Ceremony in November
The winners will be announced at the 53rd International Emmy Awards gala, set to take place in New York City on November 24. This year’s nominations span 64 entries across 16 categories, representing a record 26 countries.
“As the International Emmys continue to recognise the very best in television, the creativity and caliber of this year’s nominees reflect the global strength of our industry,” said Bruce L. Paisner, President & CEO of the International Academy.
India on the International Emmy Stage
India has made its presence felt at the International Emmys in recent years. Netflix’s Delhi Crime won Best Drama Series in 2020, while comedian Vir Das bagged the Best Comedy trophy in 2021. Dosanjh’s nomination continues that momentum, spotlighting Indian storytelling on the world stage.
The inclusion of Amar Singh Chamkila also underscores the growing international recognition of Punjabi narratives. With its powerful performances and Imtiaz Ali’s sensitive direction, the film has resonated with audiences beyond India’s borders.
