Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh Set to Lead Indian Air Force as New Chief

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is poised for a significant leadership transition as Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh, the current Vice Chief of the Air Staff, has been appointed to succeed Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari as the next Chief of the Air Staff. The formal handover is scheduled for the afternoon of September 30, 2024, marking the culmination of Air Chief Marshal Chaudhari’s distinguished service.

Air Marshal Singh, who has dedicated over three decades to the IAF, will ascend to the prestigious rank of Air Chief Marshal, bringing a wealth of experience and strategic acumen to the nation’s aerial defense. His appointment comes as a testament to his exemplary career and unwavering commitment to the service.

Commissioned into the fighter stream of the IAF on December 21, 1984, Amar Preet Singh embarked on his military journey with a passion for aviation and defense. His early years were marked by rigorous training and operational excellence, leading him to command roles that have shaped his leadership capabilities. Notably, he served as the Commanding Officer of a MiG-27 squadron, demonstrating tactical proficiency and operational leadership.

Before his current role as Vice Chief, Singh commanded the prestigious Central Air Command (CAC), where he was instrumental in overseeing critical air operations and enhancing the command’s operational readiness. His previous tenure as the Senior Air Staff Officer at the Eastern Air Command further underscored his ability to manage complex operational challenges and strategic initiatives.

An alumnus of the esteemed National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, and the National Defence College, Singh has continuously pursued excellence through advanced military education. His academic prowess complements his hands-on experience, enabling him to navigate the multifaceted demands of high-level defense leadership.

Throughout his illustrious career, Air Marshal Singh has been recognized for his exceptional service and dedication. In 2019, he was honored with the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, and in 2023, he received the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, two of the highest military awards in India, reflecting his outstanding contributions to the nation’s defense capabilities.

As the new Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh is expected to spearhead initiatives aimed at modernizing the IAF, enhancing technological advancements, and ensuring the readiness and resilience of India’s aerial forces. His leadership is anticipated to reinforce the IAF’s role in safeguarding national security and projecting India’s strategic interests both domestically and internationally.
