Victory for Abohar: DAV College Claims Top Spot in PU Youth Festival

In a vibrant celebration of youth and culture, DAV College of Education, Abohar emerged victorious at the 65th Punjab University Youth and Heritage Festival Zone-B, held at Maharishi Dayanand College of Education on Saturday.

The festival, marking its 65th edition, saw enthusiastic participation from hundreds of students representing 31 colleges across the Fazilka, Ferozepur, Muktsar, and Moga districts. The event showcased a diverse array of talents, culminating in DAV College securing the overall trophy amidst fierce competition.

Dev Samaj College of Education for Women from Ferozepur took home the first runner-up position, while Dashmesh Girls College of Education in Badal was awarded the second runner-up honors. The accolades were presented by the host institution’s Director, Dr. R.P. Asija, and Principal Dr. Sunita Arya, who commended the outstanding performances of both teams and individual participants.

The grand finale was a dazzling display of traditional folk dances, including Malwai Giddha, Luddi, and Sammi, which captivated the audience with their energetic performances and cultural significance. The lively performances not only entertained but also highlighted the rich heritage of the Punjab region, with spectators enthusiastically clapping and tapping their feet in appreciation.

Individual excellence was also recognized, with Paramjit Kaur, Shweta Paruthi, and Amanat Kaur receiving special honors for their exceptional dance performances. Their skill and dedication were celebrated as embodiments of the festival’s spirit.

Dr. Vishal Gupta, the organizing secretary, emphasized the importance of folk dances in reflecting societal values and traditions. “Folk dances are a natural representation of our community’s ideals, thought processes, customs, and religious practices. They play a crucial role in preserving our cultural heritage,” he stated.

The 65th Punjab University Youth and Heritage Festival Zone-B not only provided a platform for young talents to showcase their abilities but also reinforced the significance of cultural preservation through educational institutions. As the curtains fell on the event, participants and attendees alike left with a renewed appreciation for the vibrant traditions that continue to shape their communities.
