SGPC Gears Up for Grand Celebrations: Commemorating 450 Years of Spiritual Legacy

by Manjari Singh

In a fervent gathering today, the Dharma Prachar Committee of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) convened under the leadership of SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami. The meeting, held with solemnity and enthusiasm, set the stage for commemorating two pivotal milestones in Sikh history: the 450th centenary of Gurtagaddi of Guru Ramdas and Jyoti Jyot Divas of Guru Amardas.

Amidst the echoing chants and resonant hymns, SGPC office-bearers outlined the comprehensive plans for these upcoming celebrations slated for September. Emphasizing the grandeur of the events, President Harjinder Singh Dhami expressed satisfaction with the preparatory measures, affirming their near-completion. He underscored the intensified efforts of the Dharma Prachar movement aimed at deepening religious awareness and connecting communities with their rich heritage.

A significant highlight of the meeting was the unveiling of the emblem and associated paraphernalia for the 450th centenary celebrations, symbolizing a collective homage to the revered Gurus. President Dhami elucidated on the extensive outreach initiatives planned, including Gurmat camps in rural areas, intended to foster a deeper understanding of Sikh teachings among villagers.

Looking forward, Dhami outlined plans for Gurmat and Amrit Sanchar events at the grassroots level, bolstered by the unwavering support of SGPC members. These initiatives are poised not only to commemorate historical milestones but also to invigorate spiritual teachings at the community level.

In a move aimed at empowering Sikh women, Dhami announced a new initiative providing free education to baptised Sikh girls. Currently, 100 girls are benefiting from this program at institutions like Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Mata Sahib Kaur Girls College, Talwandi Sabo. This initiative underscores SGPC’s commitment to inclusive education and empowerment within the Sikh community.

The gathering concluded with a resounding commitment to uphold the values and teachings of Sikh Gurus, resonating with the spirit of unity and devotion that defines Sikhism. As September approaches, anticipation builds for what promises to be a momentous tribute to Sikh heritage and spiritual enlightenment.
