In a concerted effort to modernize classroom instruction and raise academic standards, the Education Department of Punjab conducted a two-day capacity-building workshop for lecturers from seven districts at the local polytechnic college. The programme aimed to equip educators from Schools of Eminence and Meritorious Schools with innovative teaching methodologies in key subjects like mathematics, science, English, and Punjabi.

Nearly 200 lecturers from Amritsar, Jalandhar, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, and Kapurthala participated in the intensive training sessions. The workshop was organised in collaboration with non-profit organisations Mantra and Avanti Fellows, both known for their work in the field of educational transformation.

District Education Officer Kanwaljeet Singh emphasized that the initiative is part of a broader strategy by the department to deliver world-class education to students across Punjab. “Our goal is to upgrade the quality of education and expose students to international-level academic facilities,” he stated.

The training programme was officially inaugurated by Balwinder Kaur, Assistant Director for the Schools of Eminence under the Punjab Education Department. Speaking at the event, she highlighted the state’s investment in educational infrastructure, noting the establishment of 118 Schools of Eminence and 10 Meritorious Schools to serve as models of excellence.

Balwinder Kaur also pointed to tangible improvements in student outcomes. “This year, students from Punjab have shown a 50% higher success rate in JEE and NEET exams compared to last year,” she remarked, crediting the state’s focus on continuous teacher training and pedagogical innovation for the significant leap.

She added that such programmes will be regularly conducted to ensure that educators stay abreast of evolving global teaching practices, ultimately benefiting students across the state.

The workshop marks another milestone in Punjab’s mission to transform its public education system and better prepare its youth for national and international opportunities.
