Punjab Government Strengthens Safety Net for Women and Children with New Helpline Posts

by Harleen Kaur

In a decisive move to enhance safety measures, the Punjab Government has announced the creation of 252 additional posts aimed at bolstering the state’s helpline services dedicated to women and children. The initiative, revealed by Social Security, Women, and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur, marks a significant step forward in ensuring swift and effective assistance in times of crisis.

Under the new plan, the department currently operating 181 helpline services for women and 1098 child helpline services will see a major reinforcement in staffing and operational efficiency. A 24×7 control room, established in Sector-35, Chandigarh, now serves as the nerve center for these emergency services. This facility is directly linked with district-level authorities and the 112 Emergency Response Support System (ERSS), ensuring that help reaches those in need without delay.

Dr. Baljit Kaur highlighted the importance of this development, emphasizing that the additional posts will enhance coordination among various agencies and cut down response times. “This move is a major stride in fortifying our response system for women and children facing distress,” she remarked. The newly sanctioned positions are expected to not only improve accessibility but also ensure that the helpline services operate seamlessly across the state.

The government’s commitment to the safety of vulnerable groups extends beyond the helpline initiative. Dr. Kaur also mentioned the launch of the Hifazat Project—a comprehensive security initiative that leverages inter-departmental coordination to create a safer environment for women and children. “We will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to safeguard our citizens. The Hifazat Project is designed to ensure that every department involved is fully equipped to maintain robust security measures,” she added.

With these measures in place, the Punjab Government reaffirms its dedication to creating a secure, fear-free, and self-reliant environment. Officials remain resolute in their pursuit of innovative and impactful solutions, ensuring that the safety, security, and well-being of women and children remain a top priority.

As the state embarks on this enhanced security journey, residents can look forward to more responsive and coordinated support during emergencies—an assurance that underscores Punjab’s proactive approach to public safety.
