Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) earned international recognition after its faculty members and students showcased their research achievements at a global conference held in Kathmandu, Nepal, from June 9 to 11.

The three-day international conference, themed around empowering women and youth to drive transformation in agri-business ecosystems, brought together researchers, policymakers, development professionals, extension experts, farmers and students from across the world. Discussions focused on strengthening sustainable agricultural development through greater participation of women and young people.

Representing PAU’s Department of Extension Education, the delegation delivered 14 oral and poster presentations covering a wide range of subjects, including agricultural extension, rural development, digital agriculture, entrepreneurship, women’s empowerment and sustainable agri-business models. Their research contributions drew appreciation from participants and experts attending the event.

The university delegation achieved notable success, with seven presentations receiving top honours in the best paper presentation category. The recognition highlighted the quality and practical relevance of the research being undertaken by the department.

Adding to the university’s achievements, one PAU student was conferred the Best MSc Research Scholar Award for outstanding academic and research performance. Another participant received a Presidential Award for exemplary contributions during the conference.

Several faculty members were also honoured for their professional accomplishments. Dr Karamjit Sharma, Deputy Director of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Muktsar, and Dr Mandeep Sharma, Assistant Professor in the Department of Extension Education and Communication Management, were recognised with Best Extension Professional Awards for their contributions to agricultural extension and rural development.

Dr Lopamudra Mohapatra, Assistant Professor of Extension Education, was honoured with the Young Woman Scientist Award for her contributions to research, extension education and rural transformation initiatives.

Congratulating the awardees, PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr Satbir Singh Gosal and Director of Extension Education Dr M.S. Bhullar said the accomplishments reflect the university’s commitment to research excellence, innovation and the empowerment of women and youth in agriculture. They noted that the honours have further strengthened PAU’s reputation on the international academic platform.
