In a significant stride towards bolstering the maintenance of electric locomotives, the Patiala Locomotive Works (PLW), an esteemed unit of the Indian Railways, successfully hosted the 41st Electric Locomotive Maintenance Study Group (MSG) Meeting. This pivotal assembly, held on March 21st and 22nd, 2024, brought together experts and professionals to tackle the pressing challenges and seize the opportunities in electric locomotive upkeep, ensuring the Indian Railways’ operational fluency.
Under the aegis of the Railway Board’s directives, this assembly served as a platform for in-depth discussions on enhancing the reliability and efficiency of electric locomotives, critical to the seamless functioning of the nation’s railway network. PCAO Shri Pramod Kumar, expressing his gratitude, lauded the collective effort and valuable insights shared by the participants, highlighting the essential role of teamwork in the railways’ sustained success.
The highlight of the gathering was the Loco cab competition held at the PLW Workshop on the subsequent day, where 13 state-of-the-art 3-Phase electric locomotives from various railway zones were showcased. This event, meticulously inspected by Shri Vijay Partap Singh, Additional Member (Traction) of the Railway Board, and Shri Pramod Kumar, along with other distinguished Railway Board officers, underscored the technological advancements and design excellence in modern locomotives.
Among the 13 contenders, six locomotives were distinguished for their superior attributes, with the Lalagoda Loco from South Central Railways and the Vatva Loco from Western Railway earning top honors. These locomotives were celebrated for their exemplary design and performance, setting new benchmarks in the domain of electric locomotive maintenance.
This meeting and competition not only underscored the Indian Railways’ commitment to innovation and excellence but also paved the way for future advancements in locomotive technology and maintenance practices.
