The heroin consignment was intercepted during a joint operation conducted by the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Intelligence Wing of the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Fazilka, on Shahtirwala Road late Friday night.
According to the FIR, an SSOC team led by Inspector Satindeep Singh Brar was patrolling the area along with personnel from the BSF’s 55 Battalion when they received specific intelligence regarding suspected drug movement.
Acting on the information, the joint team intercepted two men travelling on a motorcycle at around 11.10 pm. A search subsequently led to the recovery of a gunny bag containing 53 packets of suspected heroin, collectively weighing around 30 kg.
The two suspects have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh of Walleshah Uttar village and Manpreet Singh of New Hasta Kalan village, both in Fazilka district.
Preliminary information suggests that the accused were allegedly linked to Pakistan-based smugglers and were involved in receiving narcotics transported across the international border. Investigators are now examining the network behind the consignment, including those responsible for supplying, receiving and potentially distributing the drugs further.
The SSOC has registered a case against the two accused under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Officials said the investigation would focus on establishing both the backward and forward linkages of the suspected cross-border smuggling network.
