In a significant stride towards regional connectivity and economic development, the construction of a four-lane highway from Abohar to Fazilka is well underway. This ambitious project, overseen by Gawar Fazilka Highway Project Limited, promises to redefine infrastructure in the border district of Fazilka.
Historically known as the GT Road before Partition, National Highway-10 stretches from Delhi to Fazilka, terminating near the Indo-Pakistan border. The new four-lane highway, spanning 44.960 km, aims not only to ease travel to key cities like Delhi, Rajasthan, and Gujarat but also to bolster industrial and trade activities in the region.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Senu Duggal, overseeing the project’s progress, emphasized the importance of high-quality construction materials to ensure longevity and safety. The highway’s route starts from Fazilka-Ferozepur Road near Lalowali village, strategically bypassing villages like Ghallu and Khui Khera.
One of the project’s highlights includes the construction of 45 bridges, flyovers, and railway overbridges (RoBs), along with a dedicated service road. These infrastructural enhancements are poised to not only reduce travel time between Fazilka and Delhi but also to facilitate smoother transportation of Fazilka’s famed Basmati rice and ‘kinnow’ fruits to national and international markets.
The completion of this highway is also expected to elevate Abohar’s status within the Malwa region, thanks to the accompanying ring road that will enhance local connectivity and ease traffic congestion.
Speaking on behalf of the construction company, MD Parminder Singh and project manager Ravinder Singh expressed their commitment to delivering world-class standards. District Revenue Officer Sandeep Kumar, who joined the inspection, echoed the sentiment, highlighting the project’s potential to attract tourists to the region, particularly to the famed Sadiki checkpost for the Retreat ceremony.
With advancements in technology driving its construction, the highway project not only promises enhanced connectivity but also sets the stage for Fazilka to emerge as a pivotal hub for trade, industry, and tourism in Northern India.
As work progresses swiftly, anticipation grows for the transformative impact this infrastructure will have on Fazilka’s landscape, marking a new chapter in its journey towards economic prosperity and regional integration.
