In yet another setback for families chasing the American dream, nearly 50 young men from Haryana have been deported from the United States for entering the country illegally. The group includes 16 from Karnal, 14 from Kaithal, five from Kurukshetra and three from Jind districts.
Police officials confirmed that all deported individuals were brought to their respective districts under supervision and later handed over to their families after brief questioning. The latest deportations follow several similar cases reported earlier this year, between January and July, when multiple youths from the state were sent back from the U.S.
Most of those deported are between 25 and 40 years of age, according to official data. Families that had invested heavily in hopes of a better future abroad are now grappling with emotional and financial turmoil. Many had sold agricultural land or taken substantial loans to finance the perilous journey across continents.
Neighbours describe the mood in these villages as somber. “People are heartbroken and unwilling to talk,” a local resident said, adding that most families feel ashamed and uncertain about the future.
Karnal Superintendent of Police (SP) Ganga Ram Punia confirmed that 16 youths from the district were received in Gurugram and later reunited with their families. Those deported include Hasan (20) of Popra, Rajat Pal (20) of Singoha, Jashandeep Singh (27) of Bansa, Tajinder Pal (20) of Peont, Harish (20) of Kalsi, Ankur (26) of Rahra, Vikram (40) of Gauhgarh, Gurjant Singh (33) of Bilona, Sachin Malik (29) of Phurlak, Mahinder Singh (30) of Manura, Tushar (22) of Bastali, Nikhil (21) of Karsa Dod, Manish (28) of Agnodh, Priyanshu (20) of Bibipur Jattan, Davinder Singh (39) of Nissing, and Sawan of Gholpura.
Kaithal SP Upasana confirmed that 14 youths from her district were among those deported. “All have been handed over to their families, and their backgrounds are being verified,” she said.
Those identified include Naresh Kumar (42) of Taragarh, Karan Sharma (23) of Pidhal, Mukesh (37) and Hritik Sharma (21) of Kaithal, Sukhbir Singh (45) of Jadola, Amit Kumar (37) and Damanpreet (20) of Habri, Abhishek Kumar (22) of Buchi, Mohit (23) of Batta, Ashok Kumar (21) of Pabnawa, Ashish (27) of Sherda, Parbhat Chand (29) of Sisla, Satnam (37) of Pehral and Diamond (25) of Munarehri village.
Notably, Lakhwinder Singh alias Lakha, a resident of Titram village in Kaithal and known associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, was also deported and arrested by the STF Ambala unit upon arrival in India.
Kurukshetra police identified the deported individuals as Happy (30) of Pehowa, Pardeep (27) of Tikri, Aman Kumar (31) of Mathana, Vikram Singh (30) of Sector-3 Kurukshetra, and Paras Sharma (27) of Ismailabad.
In Jind, SP Kuldeep Singh confirmed the deportation of three youths — Ajay of Bhairon Khera, Laabjot Singh of Nimnabad, and Naveen of Pillukhera.
Sources said that several deportees had been detained in U.S. immigration centers for months before being sent back. One of the youths from Kaithal reportedly confessed to being arrested soon after crossing the Mexico–U.S. border illegally — a route commonly known as the “donkey route.”
Police also revealed that Naresh Kumar of Kaithal had been previously booked under the Excise Act in 2022.
The increasing number of deportations has raised serious questions about the network of illegal immigration agents operating in Haryana and Punjab. Authorities have urged families not to fall prey to such rackets that promise entry into the United States through unlawful means.
For many, however, the dream of a better life abroad continues to overshadow the grim realities of these dangerous and often devastating journeys.
