The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) hosted a lecture on Omega-3 fatty acids, highlighting their impact on health throughout life. Delivered by the esteemed Professor Dr. Sukhinder Kaur Cheema of Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada, the lecture drew NSI members, faculty, and students eager to learn about this vital nutrient.
Dr. Cheema provided a thorough exploration of how Omega-3s contribute to well-being, from prenatal development all the way to healthy aging. The audience actively participated in a lively Q&A session following the lecture, gaining valuable insights and practical applications of nutritional science. Dr. Shyam Mayengbam, Assistant Professor at Memorial University, also offered his expertise on this crucial topic.
Further enriching the event, ten undergraduate students from Memorial University visited PAU’s Department of Food and Nutrition. There, they interacted with students from the Experiential Learning Unit, fostering a valuable exchange of knowledge. The visiting team had also explored the Verka Milk Plant a day prior.
Dr. Kiran Bains, Dean of PAU’s College of Community Science, emphasized the significance of including Omega-3s in our diets. She highlighted their potential in preventing metabolic diseases, underlining their importance for overall health.
