In a poignant tribute to the indomitable spirit and sacrifice of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh, the sons of Guru Gobind Singh, an enlightening exhibition unfolded at the Consulate General of India in New York on Veer Bal Diwas. This event aimed to honor the extraordinary courage and unparalleled sacrifices made by these revered figures in Sikh history.
On Tuesday, the Consulate General of India in New York opened its doors to a diverse audience from the Indian-American community, eager to pay homage and tributes to the ‘Veer Sahibzade’. The exhibition, meticulously curated to showcase the life and legacy of these valiant souls, unfolded a narrative of courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment to principles.
The Consulate, echoing a sentiment of profound respect, expressed, “Honoring the exemplary courage and immortal sacrifice of Veer Sahibzaade, proud sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.” Through this commemoration, attendees were given a glimpse into the historical significance of Veer Bal Diwas, a day that marks the valor and martyrdom of these young heroes.
Acting Consul General of India in New York, Varun Jeph, underlined the significance of the occasion as he visited the Gurdwara Baba Makhan Shah Lubana in Queens. Alongside members of the gurdwara’s executive committee and the local sangat, Jeph participated in ardas and kirtan, paying homage to the sacrifices made by the Veer Sahibzade. The community also came together for langar, epitomizing the spirit of unity and shared respect.
Responding to a request from a local gurdwara priest, the Consulate extended the exhibition’s display at its premises until December 28. The exhibition will also be taken to gurdwaras in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, ensuring a broader audience can appreciate and reflect upon the enduring legacy of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh.
Across the nation, the Indian Embassy in the United States, including the Consulate General of India in Houston, actively participated in Veer Bal Diwas. A poignant photo exhibition at the Consulate in Houston showcased the courage and resilience of Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s Sahibzade, emphasizing the day as one to commemorate valour and martyrdom.
In a reflection of national solidarity, the Indian Embassy noted, “A fitting tribute was given to the exemplary courage and sacrifice of ‘sahibzadas’ of Guru Gobind Singh marking #VeerBaalDiwas.” This sentiment echoed in Shaheedi Samagams held at Brookfield Gurdwara, Wisconsin, where Sikh and Indian American leaders, along with senior Embassy officials, actively participated in honoring the legacy of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh.
