A delegation from the Punjab Para Sports Association (PPSA), led by Jaspreet Singh Dhaliwal, Shaminder Singh Dhillon, Dr. Ramandeep Singh, and Davinder Singh Taffi Barar, met with Punjab Cabinet Minister Baljeet Kaur today to discuss the upcoming Paris Paralympic Games. Scheduled to begin on August 28, 2024, these games will showcase the talents of athletes from around the globe.
During the meeting, the delegation highlighted that three athletes from Punjab will represent India at the Paralympics. The athletes include Mohammad Yasir, competing in the F46 Shot Put category, Palak Kohli in Para Badminton, and Parmjit Kumar in the 49 kg weight class for Para Powerlifting. Minister Kaur honored Yasir with a bouquet of flowers, acknowledging his contribution and dedication to the sport.
Unfortunately, two of the athletes were unable to attend the meeting as they are currently engaged in training abroad. Nevertheless, Minister Kaur, along with the PPSA officials, extended their best wishes to all three athletes. The PPSA’s media spokesperson, Pramod Dheer, shared that a total of 84 Indian athletes will compete in 12 sports at the Paris Paralympics. This follows a strong performance at the Tokyo Paralympics, where India secured 19 medals and ranked 22nd in the medal tally.
The gathering also saw the presence of officials including Mandeep Singh ADO, Jagroop Singh Suba Barar, Gurpreet Singh Dhaliwal, Jasinder Singh Dhillon, and Amandeep Singh Barar, all of whom expressed their support and encouragement for the athletes as they prepare for this prestigious international event.
