India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Canada to participate in the G7 summit. However, prior to his visit, members of the Khalistani organization Sikhs for Justice held protests on the streets, which have been strongly condemned by Sikhs around the world. Khalistani supporters often spew venom against India and especially Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but this time they have crossed all limits. They brainwashed young Sikh children—who are of school-going age—and made them shout slogans.

After a controversial video from Canada went viral on social media, Indian Sikhs expressed their anger. They appealed to the Canadian government and authorities to take strict action against the Khalistanis and ensure Prime Minister Modi’s security. In the viral video, Sikh children can be seen disrespecting PM Modi and the Indian national flag.

Former member of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, Harpal Singh Kochhar, commented on the video saying, “Children are a form of God. At this tender age, they do whatever they are told. But I feel sad that some people are making children do such inappropriate acts. This should not be done; children should be given a good education.” He further added, “Our Gurus taught us to respect all religions. Using children in this way is not an act of bravery. Whoever orchestrated this act, we strongly condemn them. Those who manipulate children into such behavior seem to be working to defame the Sikh religion.”

The head of the Khalistani organization Sikhs for Justice, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, released a video in which he made extremely inflammatory remarks against PM Modi. In it, he declared, “We are ready to end Modi’s politics at the G7 summit.”

In light of the situation, a no-fly zone was declared over Kananaskis, and extensive security measures were implemented by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, provincial police, and the Canadian Armed Forces.

However, not all Sikh organizations supported the protest. Ordinary Sikhs in Canada condemned the Khalistani demonstrations and described PM Modi’s visit as an opportunity to improve India-Canada relations. Criticizing the protest, they said it was a misuse of a global platform like the G7 summit.

Meanwhile, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney defended the invitation extended to India for the G7, calling India a key partner in the global supply chain.
