Two young men of Punjabi origin have been charged in Canada after police investigated a shooting incident outside a residence in Surrey, British Columbia, earlier this month.

The Surrey Police Service (SPS) said 21-year-old Arman Singh and 22-year-old Simarjeet Singh have each been charged with reckless discharge of a firearm under Canada’s Criminal Code. Both have been remanded in custody and are scheduled to appear before a court on June 29.

The case stems from an incident reported in the early hours of June 11. Police received information shortly after 6 am that shots had been fired at a residence located near the intersection of 96 Avenue and 133A Street approximately 30 minutes earlier.

Investigators found evidence of gunfire damage on the exterior of the house. However, no one inside the residence sustained any injuries.

The investigation was initially handled by the Major Crime Section before being transferred to the Surrey Police Service’s Extortion Response Team (ExRT), with support from Project Assurance and frontline officers.

Based on evidence gathered during the probe, investigators identified suspects and two associated properties. Search warrants were executed on June 12 with assistance from the Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), and several SPS units.

Four individuals were taken into custody during the operation. While Arman Singh and Simarjeet Singh have now been formally charged, the remaining two men have not been charged and continue to remain in the custody of the CBSA.

Police confirmed that all four individuals are foreign nationals and said immigration authorities are actively involved in the investigation.

As part of the ongoing probe, the Surrey Police Service has released photographs of the two accused, saying the move is intended to generate information that could assist investigators. Authorities have appealed to witnesses, potential victims and anyone with knowledge of individuals linked to violent extortion activities to come forward, as they continue efforts to dismantle organised criminal networks operating in the region.
