Punjab has once again strengthened its reputation as a hub of excellence in agricultural and veterinary sciences, with two of its premier institutions securing top positions in the latest International Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) rankings.
Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, emerged as the highest-ranked state agricultural and horticultural university in the country, outperforming 66 peer institutions. The university also secured the second position nationally among all institutions operating in the agricultural education and research sector.
The achievement marks the second year in a row that PAU has maintained its leadership among state agricultural universities, underlining its sustained contribution to agricultural research, innovation, and extension services.
Expressing satisfaction over the accomplishment, PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal said the university’s standing reflects its continued commitment to advancing Indian agriculture. He noted that PAU now ranks just behind the ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, in the national hierarchy of agricultural institutions.
Dr. Gosal attributed the success to the collective efforts of the university’s faculty, scientists, students, employees, alumni, and farming community. He emphasized that PAU remains focused on driving agricultural progress through cutting-edge research, quality education, and extensive outreach programmes that directly benefit farmers.
Meanwhile, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), also based in Ludhiana, delivered an equally impressive performance. The university secured the second rank among veterinary universities across India and was placed fifth overall among universities and research institutes in its category.
GADVASU has also retained its position for the second consecutive year, highlighting the institution’s growing stature in veterinary education, animal health research, and livestock development.
GADVASU Vice-Chancellor Dr. J.P.S. Gill described the recognition as a testament to the dedication and hard work of the university community. He said the achievement reflects the innovative spirit and commitment of faculty members, researchers, staff, and students who continue to contribute to the institution’s academic and scientific excellence.
The strong performance of both PAU and GADVASU in the national rankings has been widely viewed as a significant boost for Punjab’s higher education landscape. Experts believe the recognition reinforces the state’s long-standing role in supporting agricultural advancement and livestock development, sectors that remain crucial to the country’s food security and rural economy.
With both institutions retaining their leading positions for a second consecutive year, Punjab has once again demonstrated its prominence in specialized education and research, setting benchmarks for agricultural and veterinary universities nationwide.
