Dasmesh Girls College proudly celebrated as its own Simranpreet Kaur Brar clinched a silver medal in the Women’s 25-metre Sports Pistol event at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup held in Lima, Peru, last week. The BA-II student’s performance not only underscored her personal dedication but also reinforced the institution’s reputation as a cradle for champion shooters.
Brar held her nerve through a nail-biting final, posting a series of consistently high-scoring rounds that ultimately earned her second place on the podium. Reflecting on her journey, she said, “Every competition has taught me resilience. Standing here in Lima, I feel the support of my coaches, family, and the entire college behind me.”
Principal Dr. S. S. Sangha lauded Simranpreet’s achievement, recalling her steady climb through the ranks. “From her gold medal at the 2022 ISSF Junior World Cup in Germany to silver medals at both the World and Asian Championships, her track record speaks volumes,” he remarked. Dr. Sangha also highlighted her domestic triumphs, noting victories at the 38th National Games and the 67th National Shooting Championship in both 25-metre and 10-metre pistol disciplines.
Dasmesh Girls College, located in the heart of Badal village, has long been synonymous with sporting excellence. Among its distinguished alumnae are Olympians Avneet Kaur and Simranjit Kaur—each an Arjuna awardee in shooting and boxing, respectively—who paved the way for future generations of athletes.
Simranpreet’s latest podium finish in Lima adds to the college’s storied legacy, inspiring current students to aim higher both on the range and beyond. As the nation celebrates her success, all eyes now turn to the Paris Olympics, where Brar is poised to represent India once again.
