In a move set to revolutionize sports development at the grassroots level, the Youth Football Club (YFC) of Rurka Kalan, in collaboration with the Generation Amazing Foundation—a proud sponsor of FIFA World Cup 2022—has unveiled a state-of-the-art multi-sports complex designed to nurture local talent.
The newly inaugurated Generation Amazing Community Club, launched on February 24, marks a milestone in community sports infrastructure following the recent memorandum of understanding signed in Chandigarh. The Rs 8 crore project is designed to empower over 10,000 children by providing free sports training delivered by highly qualified coaches.
Gurmangal Das, founder and CEO of YFC, reminisced about the humble beginnings of the club in 2001. “Our aim was always to provide every child in our village with access to quality sports facilities,” he said. “This new investment not only transforms our local community but also paves the way for aspiring athletes to train at world-class standards without any cost.”
The first phase of the ambitious project boasts a sprawling six-acre sports ground equipped with a professional football pitch, a 50-station gym, and a versatile sports hall catering to table tennis and pickleball. Additional amenities include an auditorium and a 32-bed dormitory, which will serve as a residence for dedicated trainees. Looking ahead, the second phase promises further enhancements such as an indoor hall, a pavilion with a capacity for 2,000-3,000 spectators for national-level football matches, and a swimming pool.
The project also emphasizes capacity building among local coaches. As part of the initiative, renowned coach Hamad Abdulaziz from Qatar led an intensive four-day “Train-the-Trainer” programme aimed at enhancing the skills of local football and basketball coaches. This effort aligns with the Generation Amazing Foundation’s global commitment to youth empowerment through sports—a mission previously carried out in countries like Qatar, the Philippines, Rwanda, and Jordan.
Jassim Al-Ali, Executive Director of the Generation Amazing Foundation, highlighted the synergy between the organisations. “Since 2017, we have witnessed how YFC’s dedication to grassroots sports aligns seamlessly with our own goals. This partnership is a significant step forward in enhancing infrastructure, coaching, and overall player development in the region,” he stated.
The launch event was graced by several prominent figures. Former Indian international footballer Anwar Ali, who credited YFC-Rurka Kalan for kick-starting his career, was among the distinguished guests. Additionally, Anandpur Sahib MP Malvinder Singh Kang, former Deputy Mayor of Derby in the UK Balbir Sandhu, and esteemed Arjuna awardees including Rajinder Singh Rahelu, Gurdev Singh Gill, and Kartar Singh attended the event. Representatives from the Punjab Football Association, local sport development organisations, and members of the Gram Panchayat of Rurka Kalan also lent their support.
