In a decisive move to bolster integrity within its ranks, the Punjab Police have terminated the services of 52 personnel in the past ten days. The dismissals, which span across several ranks, are part of a broader crackdown targeting corruption, criminal activities, and prolonged absenteeism among law enforcement officials.
According to police sources, the recent purge involved personnel at various levels including one inspector, five assistant sub-inspectors, four head-constables, and an overwhelming majority of 42 constables. The operation, led by top brass including Commissioners of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police officials, was meticulously executed across several districts. Notably, Ludhiana witnessed the highest number of dismissals with seven officials removed from duty, followed by Patiala with five, while Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur each recorded four terminations.
The initiative underscores the Punjab government’s commitment to enforcing transparency and accountability in public service. Officials involved in the operation were identified based on a comprehensive review of their records, including active FIRs and allegations of corrupt practices. This rigorous vetting process aimed to weed out those tarnishing the reputation of the police force and undermining public trust.
In a further bid to modernize law enforcement and streamline citizen services, the Punjab Police are also set to launch an innovative e-FIR facility specifically for motor vehicle theft cases. This new system will empower complainants by providing an option to lodge FIRs online or at designated Saanjh Kendras, ensuring that grievances are addressed promptly and efficiently.
Officials have hailed these measures as a significant step forward in reforming the police system and reinforcing the state’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. The crackdown, coupled with the digital initiative, is expected to pave the way for a more transparent, accountable, and responsive policing structure in Punjab.
