In a significant boost for Canada’s arts and cultural sector, leading Sikh philanthropist Mandeep Roshi Chadha has been reappointed as Vice Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the National Gallery of Canada. The appointment, effective March 26, 2025, reinforces her long-standing commitment to promoting diversity and excellence in the arts.

Chadha, based in Montreal, is widely recognized for her transformative contributions to Canada’s cultural landscape. Among her many initiatives, she has been instrumental in establishing a dedicated Sikh Gallery at one of Montreal’s largest museums, underscoring her passion for preserving and sharing Sikh heritage through art.

Her reappointment was formally approved by Her Excellency the Governor General in Council on the recommendation of the Minister of Canadian Heritage, under sections 18 and 19 of the Museums Act. The four-year term marks another chapter in her influential role in shaping the country’s artistic future.

“In the world of arts this is a prestigious selection of a Sikh woman,” commented former Member of Parliament Tarlochan Singh. His remarks reflect the high regard in which Chadha is held, not only for her philanthropy but also for her pioneering efforts to integrate cultural representation into Canada’s national art narrative.

The National Gallery of Canada, located in the nation’s capital, Ottawa, stands as one of North America’s foremost art institutions. Occupying an expansive 46,621 square metres—with 12,400 square metres dedicated to exhibitions—the museum is a cornerstone of Canadian cultural heritage and continues to attract visitors from around the globe.

Chadha’s leadership on the board comes at a time when the arts community is embracing greater diversity and inclusion. Her vision and advocacy are expected to drive further innovations in programming and outreach, ensuring that the gallery remains a vibrant forum for artistic dialogue and expression.

As Canada’s cultural institutions evolve, Mandeep Roshi Chadha’s reappointment symbolizes a forward-looking commitment to not only celebrating the nation’s rich artistic legacy but also paving the way for a more inclusive future.
