In a remarkable educational excursion, more than 50 students from Lovely Professional University (LPU) recently embarked on a journey to India’s Parliament, immersing themselves in the nation’s legislative process and interacting with top political figures.
The students were given the rare chance to engage with prominent leaders, including Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi. Other distinguished personalities such as AITC MP Derek O’Brien, former Union Minister Renuka Choudhary, AAP MP Dr. Sandeep Kumar Pathak, and Rajya Sabha MP M. Anil Kumar Yadav from Telangana also graced the event. Each leader offered unique perspectives on the workings of the Parliament, shedding light on the complexities of India’s democratic framework.
Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, LPU’s Chancellor, played a pivotal role in organizing the visit. Emphasizing the importance of such initiatives, he remarked, “It is essential for the youth of our nation to experience first-hand how the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha function, as these institutions play a crucial role in shaping India’s future. Such experiences help cultivate civic awareness and a deeper sense of responsibility among students.”
The highlight of the visit was witnessing a live session in the Rajya Sabha, providing the students with an unprecedented look at legislative debates and decision-making in real time. The architectural magnificence of the Parliament itself was a source of inspiration, with many students expressing awe at the grandeur that symbolizes India’s diverse cultural heritage and democratic strength.
Vishnu, a final-year Electronics and Communication Engineering student, summed up the experience: “Visiting the Parliament was truly overwhelming and transformative. Walking through the corridors of power filled us with a deep sense of patriotism and purpose. It inspired us to engage more meaningfully with society and contribute actively to the nation’s progress.”
This immersive experience not only enhanced the students’ understanding of governmental functions but also ignited a passion for civic participation. As the youth of today, they are encouraged to be the informed citizens and leaders of tomorrow, carrying forward the legacy of democratic values and national unity.
