Punjab Police Seize 6 kg Heroin and Arms from Pakistan in Major Smuggling Bust

by Antariksh Singh

In a significant crackdown on trans-border smuggling operations, the Punjab Police’s counter-intelligence unit has seized six kilograms of heroin, 67 live .30 bore cartridges, and two magazines smuggled from Pakistan. The major operation, however, faced a setback when the primary suspect managed to escape authorities.

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav announced today that during the investigation, police recovered six mobile phones and a Jio dongle from the suspect’s abandoned bag. “The individual has been identified, and we are conducting raids across the region to apprehend him,” Yadav stated.

The investigation revealed that the suspect, a resident of Jaffarpur village in Gurdaspur, was orchestrating the illicit trade of narcotics and weapons. According to Yadav, intelligence reports indicated that the suspect received the contraband via drones near the International Border in Batala. The smuggled goods were intended for delivery to another party, highlighting a sophisticated network of illegal activities.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Counter-Intelligence) Balbir Singh led the raid on Jaffarpur village. Despite their efforts, the suspect evaded capture by discarding his bag containing the smuggled items during the operation. “Our teams are leaving no stone unturned to locate and arrest the fugitive,” Singh added.

Authorities are not only focusing on capturing the primary suspect but are also delving into the broader network to uncover both upstream and downstream connections in the smuggling chain. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend his associates to dismantle the operation comprehensively.

A case has been filed under Sections 21, 25, and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, along with Section 25 of the Arms Act. The Punjab Police remain committed to rooting out illegal smuggling activities and ensuring the safety and security of the region.

Residents of Jaffarpur village and surrounding areas have been urged to assist the police by providing any information that could aid in the swift capture of the suspect and his network.
