by Manjari Singh

In a significant boost to the entrepreneurial spirit in Punjab, the Government of Punjab has officially recognized and honored four exceptional women-led startups from the Golden Jubilee Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU). These startups have been lauded for their remarkable contributions to innovation and their profound impact on society.

The honorees include Dr. Vipasha Sharma, the visionary behind MKelly Biotech Private Limited. Dr. Sharma was celebrated for her pioneering work in healthcare innovations, which have the potential to transform medical treatments and improve patient outcomes.

Dr. Gauri Jemurgen, the founder of Gauri’s Skin Care Private Limited, was acknowledged for her groundbreaking development of a biomass-based natural sunscreen formula. This innovative product not only offers protection from the sun but also boasts anti-aging and anti-cancer properties, setting a new standard in skincare.

Pooja Kaushik received accolades for her creative approach with ‘Kreatekit,’ a startup specializing in crochet and fiber-based products. Kaushik’s work exemplifies how traditional crafts can be revitalized and transformed into contemporary, marketable products.

Nancy Bhola was honored for her social enterprise, ‘Sakhiyaan.’ This initiative focuses on empowering marginalized women, weavers, and artisans in Punjab’s rural areas. Through Sakhiyaan, these communities produce sustainable products from textile waste, blending social impact with environmental responsibility.

Dr. PK Pati, the coordinator of the Centre, highlighted that these startups are registered with the GNDU incubation center and have benefitted from various state government schemes. The Centre currently supports 40 startups engaged in cutting-edge technologies and innovations. Many of these enterprises have secured seed funding from the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology and Startup Punjab.

“Beyond promoting and supporting these startups, the Centre has also developed a robust network of mentors, ecosystem enablers, investors, and industry partners,” Dr. Pati stated. This network is instrumental in nurturing the growth and success of these innovative ventures.

The recognition of these women-led startups underscores Punjab’s commitment to fostering innovation and supporting entrepreneurs who are making a meaningful difference in their communities.
