Major Crackdown on Organized Crime: Punjab Police Dismantle Jassa Burj Gang’s Plot

by Antariksh Singh

In a significant victory against organized crime in Punjab, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of the Punjab Police, in collaboration with the Bathinda police, successfully thwarted a planned dacoity operation. The operation led to the arrest of Jaspreet Singh, also known as Jassa, reputed leader of the Jassa Burj Gang, alongside three of his key associates, announced Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Saturday.

During the raid, authorities seized four .32 bore pistols and 11 cartridges from the suspects. The apprehended individuals include Karanveer Singh, alias Karni, from Gulabgarh village; Resham Singh of Chatha village; and Hardeep Singh, alias Aarshi, from Sekhu village. All four have extensive criminal backgrounds, with histories of arms trafficking, snatching, kidnapping, and other illicit activities.

DGP Yadav revealed that the operation was initiated following a tip-off, leading teams from the AGTF, under the strategic oversight of Additional Director General of Police Promod Ban, to intercept the gang members on Bathinda’s Ring Road. The operation was meticulously coordinated by Deputy Superintendents of Police Jaspal Singh and Sarabjeet Singh, along with Inspector Karandeep Singh.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the arrested gang members were orchestrating a dacoity targeting a financer in the Rama Mandi area of Bathinda district. Authorities are currently delving deeper to uncover the gang’s broader network and connections.

Senior Superintendent of Police Amneet Kondal provided further insights, stating that Jaspreet Singh and his associates were also linked to a violent altercation at DAV College in Bathinda last month. Kondal emphasized that Jaspreet is facing at least eleven criminal cases related to serious offenses.

In light of the arrests, authorities have filed charges under Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act, and Section 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), with the case registered at the Bathinda Cantonment Police Station. The ongoing investigations aim to dismantle the remaining structures of the Jassa Burj Gang and prevent further criminal activities in the region.

This operation marks a decisive step by Punjab Police in their relentless pursuit to eradicate organized crime and ensure the safety and security of its citizens.
