Neena Singh, a trailblazer in her own right, has made history as the first Indian and Sikh woman to be elected Mayor of Montgomery Township in New Jersey. Her remarkable achievement was celebrated alongside three other outstanding Indian and Indian-American women at a special event in New York City, commemorating International Women’s Day. The event, graced by the recently appointed Consul General of India, Binay Pradhan, was a testament to the remarkable accomplishments and contributions of these exceptional women to society.

Joining Neena Singh in the spotlight were Maharani Radhikaraje Gaekwad, Indu Lew, and Megha Desai, all of whom were recognized for their remarkable achievements and contributions. The event, co-hosted by the Consulate General of India in New York and the Federation of Indian Associations, served as a platform to honor these women’s remarkable achievements and inspire others to strive for greatness.

Neena Singh’s journey to becoming Mayor is one marked by dedication, service, and a commitment to her community. Having called Montgomery home for 24 years, she has ingrained herself deeply within the fabric of the township. Her unanimous selection as Mayor by her fellow Township Committee members speaks volumes about the trust and confidence they have in her ability to lead.

“It’s an enormous privilege to be sworn in by trailblazer Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman as the first elected Sikh woman Mayor in New Jersey and the first Indian-American woman Mayor,” expressed Mayor Neena Singh, reflecting on the significance of the moment. Her words echo a sentiment of gratitude and determination, embodying the spirit of service that propels her forward.

Mayor Singh’s priorities for the year ahead are clear: public safety and health. These are not just mere policy points but a reflection of her deep-rooted commitment to the well-being of her constituents. Having previously served as Deputy Mayor and Township Committeewoman, Mayor Singh’s leadership experience and dedication to service make her uniquely qualified to tackle the challenges that lie ahead.

Her nomination to the position by outgoing Mayor Devra Keenan and committee-woman Patricia Taylor Todd further underscores the respect and admiration her peers have for her. It is a testament to her leadership qualities and her ability to unite and inspire those around her.

Mayor Neena Singh carries with her the hopes and aspirations of not just the Indian-American community but all those who believe in the power of diversity and representation in leadership. Her journey serves as an inspiration for countless others, a reminder that with dedication, perseverance, and a heart for service, anything is possible. In her hands lies the opportunity to shape the future of Montgomery Township and pave the way for generations to come.
