Sood, a PhD scholar in PAU’s Department of Economics and Sociology, presented a paper titled “Digital Capital and Productivity in India’s Food Manufacturing Sector: Evidence of Scale-Dependent Effects.”
The workshop, organised in honour of noted agricultural economist Uma Lele, brought together scholars and researchers from institutions across the world. The programme provided a platform for participants to discuss emerging research, exchange academic perspectives and receive mentoring from experts.
Sood’s research focuses on the relationship between digital capital and productivity in India’s food manufacturing industry. In particular, the study examines whether the productivity gains associated with digitalisation differ depending on the scale at which manufacturing enterprises operate.
The study forms part of her doctoral research, “Economic Impact of Digitalisation on Agricultural Transformation in Punjab and Haryana,” being undertaken under the supervision of Vinita Kanwal.
According to PAU, Sood received academic support while preparing for the Oxford workshop from Kamal Vatta, who facilitated practice sessions ahead of the presentation. Sendhil R and Laishram Priscilla also contributed inputs towards the development and articulation of the research.
